Secretary general: Situation along CSTO borders remains tense

The situation along the entire perimeter of the borders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization remains tense, BelTA learned from Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas after a CSTO summit in Moscow on 16 May.

Stanislav Zas said: “The heads of state noted that the number of challenges and threats to security rises constantly not only in the organization's responsibility area but in the entire world. The situation in all zones of responsibility of our organization was discussed.”

The official remarked that the situation in the Eastern Europe region is complicated and tensions linger at the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Afghanistan remains a destabilizing factor in Central Asia. “Thus, the state of affairs along the entire perimeter of our borders remains quite tense,” Stanislav Zas stated.

According to the CSTO secretary general, a drastic increase in aggressiveness of world powers and military political blocs towards Russia and its allies has become a serious challenge for the CSTO member states.

Speaking about the summit in Moscow, Stanislav Zas stated that the meeting was constructive and the heads of state had exchanged opinions about a broad range of matters. The state of international security and regional security were high on the agenda as well as the role and the place of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the modern world. Prospects of the organization's development were discussed.
