Lukashenko: Karankevich is to see through storm recovery efforts
The newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich is to see through the storm recovery efforts in the energy sector, which he was responsible for while heading the Energy Ministry, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made new appointments on 12 August, BelTA has learned.
"On top of everything else, you're still in charge of storm recovery efforts. Everything that we agreed on must be fulfilled. Especially now when there are even more opportunities. We need to put electricity networks in order, to see what else needs to be done. Work together with the new Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko [former head of Beltopgaz] and tell him everything we talked about and everything that needs to be done," the Belarusian leader instructed.
As BelTA previously reported, following the July conference call, the Energy Ministry was instructed, in addition to a number of prompt actions to do the storm damage clean-up (connecting households to power supply, switching temporary power supply from diesel generators to electricity networks), to analyze the condition of power grids and draw up proposals to improve the reliability of power supply by 31 December 2024. This included replacing old power lines, where necessary.
