Lukashenko: ‘Belarusian society has changed a lot'

Judging by the results of the recent sociological survey, the Belarusian society has changed a lot, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made new appointments in local administration bodies on 6 December, BelTA has learned.

“You should be very careful when selecting people for your team. Do not start a witch hunt, do not see an enemy in everyone. After all, many people were misguided then. In the near future we will publish the results of the recent large-scale opinion survey. We polled various labor collectives, and people answered many closed questions. Judging by the results, the society has changed a lot after last year's events,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

According to the head of state, many Belarusians saw what those people seeking power were really worth and what their plans were. “Every day gives us the grounds to say that we could have made a huge mistake if we had lost last year. The country would have simply ceased to exist today,” the president said.

There is no place for traitors in the government, either, Aleksandr Lukashenko added. He is sure that ordinary Belarusians will be unable to answer the question what the opposition wants. “We said it then: their goals were to break the union with Russia, to invite NATO here, reformat the church, to ban the Russian language and so on. They are hiding these plans now as they know they do not benefit them. The recent sociological survey shows that people support the course we are pursuing today,” the Belarusian leader said.
