Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has sent a message to internationalist soldiers and veterans of the war in Afghanistan on the occassion of the anniversary of the withdrawal of the Soviet Army troops from Afghanistan, BelTA learned from the press service of the head of state.
On 15 February Belarus marks Internationalist Soldier Remembrance Day. “35 years have passed since the withdrawal of the Soviet Army from the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, but the hearts of Belarusians keep the memory of their compatriots, who became an unyielding obstacle to international terrorism,” the message reads. “Showing courage and fortitude, you defended the southern borders of your country, fought for a decent future of the Afghan people”.
According to the head of state, Belarusians share the grief of the families of the fallen soldiers and officers, bow their heads before the mothers who raised true patriots.
“Returning from the war, you have continued to serve the Fatherland: instilling love and respect for the homeland in the younger generation, guarding the foundations of the state system, working for the benefit of society. Having passed through difficult trials, you remain a reliable shield protecting your native Belarus from modern threats,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
The Belarusian head of state wished them the strength of the spirit and good health, and peace and wellbeing to their loved ones.
