Iraqi company plans to buy Belarusian milk powder, beef

MINSK, 27 July - A company from Iraq plans to buy Belarusian milk powder and beef, spokesperson for the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) Roman Yaniv told.

Following the visit of a top manager of the Iraqi company Al Seraj Al Mubeen Co., plans are to study the issue of organizing supplies of Belarusian milk powder and beef to Iraq. According to the Iraqi businessman, Al Seraj Al Mubeen Co. specializes in the import and wholesale of food products, the demand for which has grown significantly amid the continued instability in the global food market. In this regard, there is a need to expand the geography of purchases, and Belarus is considered one of the most promising markets.

BUCE Deputy Chairman Aleksei Matsevilo expressed his readiness to assist Al Seraj Al Mubeen Co. in establishing business contacts with the largest Belarusian dairies and meat processing plants, whose products are widely represented on the exchange platform, and providing information on current prices for the main types of food products taking part in exchange trading. “In the context of diversification of Belarusian agricultural exports, Asian and Middle Eastern markets are coming to the forefront, therefore many agricultural companies using our trading platform have already reformatted their sales policy taking into account this trend. So, if you place an order to buy the goods you are interested in, it will definitely find a response. The exchange has recently started supplying milk powder to China with delivery by road and sea transport. It is quite possible that the same scheme can be used in the delivery of products to Iraq. Among exchange brokers cooperating with us there are large logistics operators which will take care of the delivery,” said Aleksei Matsevilo.

The Iraqi representative added that ensuring food security is one of the most important tasks for any country. “The sharp increase in food prices in traditional markets makes us look for alternative sources of supply. This is the reason for my visit to Belarus, which is one of the leading food exporters not only in Eastern Europe but also in the world. We would like to buy milk powder and frozen beef here. Of course, the price will play a decisive role, that is why we are interested in working directly with producers. We expect that the exchange will help us in this matter and through your platform we will be able to reach the largest agricultural enterprises of the country,” the Iraqi businessman said.
