Iran is interested in timber supplies from Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Forestry Minister Vladimir Krech told the media after his visit to Tehran, BelTA learned from the press service of the Forestry Ministry.
The delegation headed by Vladimir Krech visited Iran and took part in the 20th International Exhibition Iran WOODEX in Tehran. The Belarusian delegation got familiar with the exposition of woodworking equipment and wood products, and held a number of business negotiations with representatives of the business community and the banking sector.
“The main result of our trip is that we heard the interest of Iranian companies in both our timber products and wood chips. Today Iran produces fiberboard and chip board. Low-quality raw materials, which are abundant in Belarus, are suitable for this purpose. It is inexpensive, so it is important to work well on logistics and optimization of all costs,” Vladimir Krech said.
According to the deputy minister, Iranian companies have already assessed the quality of Belarusian timber products - they are competitive with respect to other exporting countries. During the visit, the parties were able to finally resolve the issue of payments for supplies: they will be made in Russian rubles and through the Russian payment system. “No matter how difficult it is, we are looking for and finding alternative markets. I am sure that as this work develops, we will be able to forget about the European sanctions,” Vladimir Krech said.
