Belaruskali is considering building a plant to make fertilizers based on potassium sulfate, BelTA learned from Director General of OAO Belaruskali Ivan Golovaty during the 3rd Belarusian Agrochemical Forum.
Ivan Golovaty said: “At the moment we are working on making fertilizers out of potassium sulfate in Belarus and are examining the effectiveness of the technologies. We contacted Chinese partners to discuss these matters literally in May. I think the decision to build a new manufacturing facility in the country will be made next year. I'd like to note that potassium nitrate is made in Belarus at present, however, it is more fitting for greenhouse farming. Nitrogen-potassium fertilizers are used for the additional fertilizing of grass and other crops.”
In his words, certification deters the production of new kinds of fertilizers. “If a manufacturer wants to make a new fertilizer, he or she will need at least three years for it. We have no right to sell such fertilizers until then. The relevant trials will be done over this period. I'd like to note that the reduction of this period will truly help develop new types of fertilizers and start producing them. I hope regulations on trials will be adjusted and revised, which will allow satisfying our consumers,” the Belaruskali director general noted.
