Belarusian forensic experts interested in continuation of Union State’s DNA Identification program

Belarusian forensic experts are interested in the continuation of the DNA Identification program of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee Aleksei Volkov at a press conference held in anticipation of the Forensic Expert Day (22 April).
Belarusian scientists, in particular, personnel of the applied science center of the State Forensic Examination Committee have participated in the DNA Identification program by implementing several tasks. “We discussed the matter not so long ago. The development of forensic science as part of this program undoubtedly looks promising and interesting for us. All the external factors permitting, we are certainly interested in that, we will take an active part and will continue realization,” Aleksei Volkov said when asked whether the continuation of this program was under consideration.
According to Yuri Ovsiyuk, Deputy Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee, the Belarusian side is satisfied with the achieved results. “We hope we will soon be able to use them in practical work,” he said. “As far as further work on such programs is concerned, we are always open to it. There is one consideration though: we are executors, not customers here. The Russian side and the National Academy of Sciences acted as the customer in the past. If these studies have to continue in various areas, I think our personnel will be pleased to take care of it. And our infrastructure allows doing it.”
