Despite Lithuania's latest actions, the Belarusian customs service will continue to take all measures to ensure prompt clearance of transport at the border, BelTA learned from the Belarusian State Customs Committee.
In 2019, at the initiative of the customs and border services of Belarus, an agreement was signed with Lithuania on cross-border cooperation in order to increase the capacity of checkpoints, eliminate queues and ensure uninterrupted flow of transport across the customs border.
Yet, the State Border Guard Service at the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania has unilaterally terminated cooperation with customs and border services of Belarus. Even before the termination of the agreement Lithuania did not fulfill the agreements set forth in it, the Belarusian State Customs Committee informed.
"By making such a decision, Lithuania confirmed its position on the deliberate effort to create queues at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, which primarily affects truck drivers of European transport companies. In turn, the Belarusian customs authorities will continue to take all possible measures for the prompt clearance of vehicles," the committee stressed.
