Belarus plans to crop record-high harvest of colza in 2023

Belarusian farmers plan to gather a record-high harvest of colza this year - 1 million tonnes, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The year of 2022 was a good one for the farmers. We need to not only get a foothold at this level, but also grow a little bit more. That is why we had to cut the winter rye area and increase the winter barley area. We have increased winter wheat and winter colza areas and are expanding spring colza sowing, so that we could get at least 1 million tonnes of colza this year,” Leonid Zayats said.

According to him, we plan to gather crops from 2.5 million hectares planted with cereals and maize, of which 26% will be spring cereals and leguminous plants and the rest will be winter cereals and maize. “Last year's yield together with maize was 35.8 centners per hectare. This year we aim to be at least at last year's level,” the deputy prime minister said.
