Work on Belarus-Russia Union State Security Concept completed
State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Dmitry Mezentsev and State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich held a working meeting in Minsk on 8 August, BelTA has learned.
The parties considered topical issues of bilateral cooperation in security within the framework of the Union State. In particular, it was noted that joint work on the draft Security Concept of the Belarus-Russia Union State had been completed in pursuance of the instruction of presidents of Belarus and Russia Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. The state secretary of the Union State emphasized that the draft final document would be submitted to the Council of Ministers and the Supreme State Council of the Union State in the near future.
The parties underlined the importance and timeliness of the decisions taken by the Supreme State Council of the Union State, which defined as priority the programs of the Union State aimed at improving the infrastructure and rear facilities in the interests of the regional group of forces of Belarus and Russia.
According to Dmitry Mezentsev, the Border Committee of the Union State plays an important role amid a complicated foreign policy situation in the Eastern European region. He drew special attention to the timeliness of the approval of the program to improve measures to ensure border security of the Union State.
Aleksandr Volfovich and Dmitry Mezentsev discussed ways to expand cooperation between the security agencies of the two countries in outreach activities aimed at young people. They supported the proposal to increase the number of events of civic and patriotic education of the younger generation based on the heroic stages of shared history, respect for the feat of the Soviet people who defeated Nazism. Special focus was made on the need to protect historical memory and the truth about the Great Patriotic War and to prevent the dissemination of inaccurate and false information.
