Protection of motherhood and childhood named among priorities of Belarus' state policy

Protection of motherhood and childhood in Belarus is one of the priorities of state policy, Lyudmila Aleinik, the spouse of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, said as she addressed an event on the occasion of International Children's Day in Gymnasium No. 12 in Minsk on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

The meeting was attended by spouses of ambassadors accredited to Belarus and women ambassadors.

"Today we are here to celebrate a very good and kind occasion: the International Children's Day," Lyudmila Aleinik said. “Although the holiday is dedicated to children, people of all ages love it. After all, a child lives in the heart of any adult, and throughout our lives we cherish precious childhood memories as a pure source of joy and inspiration. In many ways, this is why the protection of motherhood and childhood in Belarus is one of the priorities of state policy.”

Lyudmila Aleinik stressed that with the full support of society, the state is making significant efforts to ensure that from the very first minutes of their birth, children grow up healthy, in an atmosphere of care, so that their lives are peaceful, calm and protected from adversity. So that every child can reveal their talents and realize their dreams, regardless of the financial wealth of their parents or other factors.

"All children in Belarus, regardless of citizenship, are protected from discrimination and violence and are guaranteed the right to healthcare and education, rest and leisure. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most important international ‘children's' document to which Belarus is a party," Lyudmila Aleinik said. “The results of the Belarusian state policy in this area are also recognized by international organizations. Thus, according to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), primary and secondary education is available to all young Belarusians. Infant mortality rates are at zero. Our country is among the top 25 in the ranking of comfortable conditions for motherhood."

She expressed confidence that all those present share a common reverential attitude towards all children on this planet, without any dividing lines.

The wife of the Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked everyone for participating in the traditional charity event of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collect gifts for orphanages, timed to coincide with the Children's Day.

"We have collected a huge number of gifts, in accordance with the wishes of children. Thanks to this, the dreams of the pupils of the Molodechno special general education boarding school for children with visual impairments, Children's Home No. 3 in Minsk and the Chervensky boarding school for disabled children with special needs will be fulfilled. This proves once again that through cooperation and dialogue, mutual respect and understanding, we are capable of much. We want to see children healthy, happy and successful," Lyudmila Aleinik said.

She drew attention to the children's exhibition of drawings made as part of the Sun, Happiness, Friendship contest sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It brought together children of different ages, nationalities, and they are united by one thing - pure faith in goodness, miracles, peace and prosperity. The winners of the competition were announced during the event.

"In addition to drawings, dance has been featured heavily during today's event. It is an art form that does not require translation. It is body language, the embodiment of folk traditions, stories and human emotions. Sometimes, looking at the dances of different nations, we understand how similar we all are," said the minister's wife.

Lyudmila Aleinik thanked the management and schoolchildren of gymnasium No. 12 and the children's dance group Lyanok for hosting and contributing to today's event.
