Over 96,000 people visit Kupala Night festival in Alexandria
The national festival Kupala Night (Alexandria Gathers Friends) that was held in Shklov District on 6 July was attended by more than 96,000 people, up by 16,000 over the previous year, BelTA learned from the Mogilev Oblast police department.
According to the police, there were no accidents or emergencies during the festival. Law enforcement was focused on ensuring personal, property and road safety during the event.The annual festival is one of the biggest and most spectacular cultural events of the region. It is held on the picturesque bank of the Dnieper River near the bridge connecting the agricultural towns of Alexandria and Kopys. The festival debuted in 2010. The idea behind it has to do with the river that from time immemorial served as a cradle of culture of many Slavic peoples, and was also part of the large trade route “from the Varangians to the Greeks”.
The Kupala Night festival in Alexandria draws tens of thousands of visitors, professional and amateur music groups and artisans. By the way, this year the festive events were attended by heads and representatives of diplomatic missions from 30 states accredited in Belarus.The festival program featured several dozen events: folk amusements, round dances, quests, concerts, master classes, competitions, children's interactive programs, sports and circus performances, light and music shows, youth disco.
