The judicial systems of Belarus and Russia must be synchronized, Chairman of the Belarusian Supreme Court Valentin Sukalo told the media, BelTA has learned.
The Supreme Court jointly with Belarusian State University will hold a conference “Belarusian justice: historical experience and the present” on 15 February. The conference will bring together representatives of the scientific community, the heads of the key government bodies and also judges of the EAEU Court, the CIS Economic Court and the Supreme Court of Russia.
Representatives of the Russian judicial system will take part in the conference, Valentin Sukalo noted. “It is essential that Belarus synchronize its reforms with the Russian ones both structurally and in part of legal proceedings. We keep in close touch. Our system is largely consistent with the judicial system of Russia and the EAEU in structural matters and also in legal proceedings,” Valentin Sukalo noted.
Belarus, according to him, is keeping abreast of international trends in justice. “We carefully examine and adopt the best practices but never copy them blindly. We have our own way, our own judicial system. Our judicial administration and enforcement system are of interest. Most states delegate such responsibilities to the executive bodies represented by the Ministry of Justice, whereas in our country the judiciary does it on its own,” he highlighted.
The topics planned for discussion are the main results of the Belarusian general courts reform, the role of the head of state in the formation and strengthening of the general courts system, the interaction of judicial and legislative authorities in the context of the development of national law, the transformation of legal education in the face of modern challenges.
