Belarus harvests over 1.6m tonnes of grain


MINSK, 1 August – Belarus' harvest has reached 1,659,500 tonnes of grain, learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 1 August, grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat and millet) were harvested from 20.4% of the planned area (435,800 hectares). Harvesting was completed on 41.2% of the area (142,700 hectares) in Brest Oblast, 4.91% (17,800 hectares) in Vitebsk Oblast, 30.8% (106,900 hectares) in Gomel Oblast, 19.4% (59,200 hectares) in Grodno Oblast, 17.2% (77,300 hectares) in Minsk Oblast.

All in all, 1,659,500 tonnes of grain were threshed in Belarus, with the average yield at 38.1 centners per hectare. Winter barley was harvested from 58,700 hectares of land (98.5% of the designated area), with 300,400 tonnes threshed (the average yield is at 51.2 centners per hectare). Malt barley was harvested from 17,000 hectares of land (31.1% of the plan), with 71,400 tonnes threshed and the average yield at 42 centners per hectare. Winter rapeseed was gathered in from 198,200 hectares of land or 64.3% of the targeted area, with 493,700 tonnes threshed and the average yield at 24.9 centners per hectare. Flax was cleared from the area of 24,200 hectares (54.7%).

As part of the second cutting agricultural workers cut down grass on 726,100 hectares or 71.1% of the targeted area. Some 635,500 tonnes of hay (66.5% of the target), 11.318 million tonnes of haylage (84.3%), and 300,900 tonnes of silage (1.58%) were produced.
