Belarus’ CEC ready for presidential election at any moment

The Central Election Commission is ready to organize a presidential election at any moment, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko.
Igor Karpenko said: “In accordance with the legislation and bearing in mind the inauguration of the president of the Republic of Belarus in 2020, the last day for holding a presidential election is 20 July 2025. It is up to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to choose the date for the election. I need to emphasize that the presidential election will complete the large-scale political modernization, which was launched by a republican referendum to amend and expand the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus in 2022. And it is logical that the election of the president as an important branch of the government that coordinates other branches of the government is a sufficiently important institution in this political modernization. This is why we will await the decision of the House of Representatives. The CEC is ready for organizing the election at any moment.”
In his words, the CEC has already prepared the guidelines. “We train potential election organizers. The relevant courses have been organized at premises of the Academy of Public Administration under the President. We’ve developed similar courses at premises of education development institutes in the regions. You have to understand that, for instance, nearly 70,000 people worked as part of election commissions alone on the single voting day. It is a huge army of social activists and certainly, it is necessary to study some minor details of the amended election legislation as well as technological approaches, the uniform application of this legislation in voting practices. This work is also in progress,” the CEC head stressed.
“Naturally, we work with territories to choose the locations where voting will take place. In other words, polling stations. Some need a bit of repairs and some additional equipment. We work on it according to a plan. There is nothing unusual about the CEC finishing one election campaign and starting preparations for the next election after the term of office of an elected body expires,” Igor Karpenko added.
