MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – The necessity to purchase nuclear fuel for the nuclear power plant will not affect Belarus’ energy security, said Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus Mikhail Mikhadyuk as he met with European Union reporters in Minsk on 22 July, BelTA has learnt. According to the Deputy Minister, the arguments that Belarus will have dependence on the imported nuclear fuel is a disputable matter. The nuclear chain reactor is loaded at least for a year. So, the possible problems with the fuel suppliers can be settled for that period. It is possible to purchase the nuclear fuel for 5-10 years; it does not require big storage facilities, the official added. Mikhail Mikhadiuk noted that the nuclear fuel is expected to be imported from Russia. At the same time, an appearance of other suppliers on the fuel market is possible, he added. The European Union reporters are supposed to stay in Belarus on a fact-finding tour till 24 July. Thirteen reporters represent mass media from Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania and the United Kingdom. The visit is supposed to get European Union citizens more familiar with the concrete projects the European Union implements in Belarus as part of the European Neighborhood Policy, said organizers of the visit.
