The women’s team of Belarus won the bronze medal of the European basketball championships which finished October 7 in Italy. In the bronze-medal match Belarus beat Latvia 72:63 (16:17, 16:7, 23:13, 17:26). The most valuable players in the Belarusian team were Anastasia Veremeenko (15 [points), Tatiana Troina (13 points) and Natalia Trofimova (12 points). This is the first time Belarus has medaled at the European championships and advanced into the qualifying tournament ahead of the Olympic Games 2008. The gold medal went to Russia, silver - to Spain.
