Vitebsk to host international conference on demography on 15 April

Vitebsk State Medical University (VSMU) will host a conference to discuss demography, birthrate and motherhood.

Taking part in the forum will be representatives of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and Russian scientists, BelTA learned from the press center of the VSMU.

The conference will be held offline. Students, teachers of the VSMU, representatives of the clergy, obstetricians-gynecologists from Belarus and participants from Russia will discuss how to preserve the country's gene pool. The agenda covers a broad range of matters, from social to medical issues.

First of all, the participants of the conference will share their ideas how to increase the birthrate in Vitebsk Oblast, how to encourage more births, how to promote a healthy lifestyle among parents-to-be, how to help women in difficult situations. The participants will include representatives of the regional maternity hospital, the Family, Motherhood and Childhood Support Center Pokrova (Bobruisk). An invited guest from Saint Petersburg Medical and Social Institute will discuss abortion, contraception and assisted reproductive technologies.

It is no coincidence that the VSMU was chosen as the venue for the conference: the university trains gynecologists. It is important for future doctors to look at the problems of demography and women's health not only from a medical point of view, but also from a social and spiritual point of view. Students of the VSMU will be joined by students of Vitebsk Medical College who will also work at obstetrics and gynecology clinics.
