Vitebsk State University certifies quality management system

VITEBSK, 6 July (BelTA) – Vitebsk State University named after Piotr Masherov has certified the quality management system for compliance with the STB ISO 9001-2009 standard and in the German accreditation system for the compliance with DIN EN ISO 9001-2008, BelTA learnt from pro-rector of the university Veslav Turkovsky. Vitebsk State University has also certified the quality management system of the Polotsk and Orsha colleges which are part of the university, he said. The area of certification includes design, development and provision of educational services in pre-university training and also training of specialists at the first and second (master) stages of higher leaning, vocational training, training of research fellows of the highest qualifications, retraining and enhancement of qualifications of personnel, research and innovation activities. The quality management system allows for trouble shooting and discovering growth points and in this way promoting the development of the university, improving the quality of educational services and streamlining the expenses, Veslav Turkovsky believes. The introduction of the quality management certificate enhances the prestige and competitiveness of the university in the international arena and provides an opportunity for the university to get integrated into the European educational space, he added. When working on the quality management system, Vitebsk State University identified the mission, vision and management policy in quality, designed 33 standards of descriptions of processes and activities, quality manual and quality management system vocabulary, six regulations to support the quality management system. The bulk of the preparatory work was related to the faculty training. As a result, over 360 faculty members received commissioners for quality certificates, some 25 internal auditors were trained. “The quality management system enhances efficiency of work, it is the precondition and means of innovative development of the university,” Veslav Turkovsky is convinced. The university management structure has been streamlined and optimized. The introduction of the quality management system gave rise to a number of new solutions in the educational process. A three-level exam was introduced to raise the objectiveness of evaluation of knowledge. Vitebsk State University and administrations of Vitebsk secondary schools set up five scientific and counseling centers to monitor educational process in secondary schools to improve the training quality of future teachers. Other innovations include marketing and tourist departments, and a psychological support center. Vitebsk State University was founded in 1910 as a teachers’ college. In 1995 it received the status of a classical university. The university trains specialists in pedagogy, psychology, humanitarian sciences, math, art and design, law, social work and physical education.
