Vitebsk Oblast creates 12,500 working places in H1 2010

VITEBSK, 28 July (BelTA) – In January-June 2010, some 12,500 working places were created in Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA learned from Irina Matveeva, first deputy chair of the committee for labour, employment and social protection of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. For the past six months, the local authorities gave employment to 18,100 citizens including 11,900 men out of occupation. Professional training was organized for 2,100 people including 735 unemployed. Some 326 unemployed have got assistance in organization of their own businesses. According to Irina Matveeva, the implementation of the employment program has allowed the region to preserve stability on the labour market. As of 1 July 2001, the unemployment level in Vitebsk Oblast was 1.1%. As against January-June 2009 the number of the unemployed in the region was reduced by 7.2% to 6,200 people. In the period under review the number of the people engaged in the national economy of Vitebsk Oblast increased by 3,500 people to 567,200 people over the same period of last year.
