Vitebsk and Daugavpils culture center launch joint project
VITEBSK, 2 March (BelTA) – The Vitebsk culture center and the Latvian culture center in Daugavpils started to implement the joint project “Daugavpils and Vitebsk: cultural cooperation and development” under the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus cross-border cooperation program. The presentation of the project was held in Vitebsk on 2 March, BelTA informs. “This project is a logical continuation of long-standing cultural relations between Vitebsk and Daugavpils and is to contribute to the spread of knowledge about national cultures and folklore of Belarus and Latvia,” Director General of the Vitebsk culture center Rodion Bass said. The project provides for holding joint cultural events such as celebration of traditional national holidays of Ivan Kupala and Ligo, concerts, culture exchange programs, etc. All these events will contribute to the implementation of the major goal of the project, which is to improve the technical level of staging different events including international events aimed at popularizing national cultures, customs and traditions. The project will be running in 2012-2013. The total budget of the project is ?296,800. The budget of the Belarusian part of the project makes up ?109,900 including ?98,900 from the European Commission. The general strategic goal of the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus cross-border cooperation program is to improve the territorial cohesion of Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian cross-border region, guarantee the high level of environmental protection, ensure economic and social well-being of people and assist to the international dialogue and cultural diversity. The program is implemented within the framework of the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument.БЕЛТА
