Vatican may lend Marc Chagall’s works for display in Vitebsk
VITEBSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Vatican may lend Marc Chagall’s works for the sake of arranging an exhibition in Vitebsk. The initiative was put forth by Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, Apostolic Nuncio of Vatican in Belarus, as he met with top executives of the Vitebsk Oblast administration on 3 April. “Works by this internationally recognized artist are kept in Vatican, Germany, and France. We would be pleased to organize an exhibition,” said the Archbishop. Claudio Gugerotti said that paying a tribute of respect to the Belarusian culture by honoring the memory of the Vitebsk native, internationally recognized artist Marc Chagall was one of the most important goals of his visit. “On behalf of the Pope I would like to lay flowers at his monument and visit the museum to underline that for many centuries the Belarusian land has been hospitable towards various cultures and nations,” said Vatican’s representative. The initiative of the Archbishop was welcomed by Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. “It is a remarkable proposal. We will be pleased to implement the project,” said Vladimir Terentyev. Celebrations to honor the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s birthday began in Vitebsk on 3 April with the fourth national naive art exhibition Insita 2012.БЕЛТА
