U.S. business takes interest in Chagall’s quarter project in Vitebsk
VITEBSK, 25 June (BelTA) – U.S. business took interest in the tourist project in Pokrovskaya Street in Vitebsk where Marc Chagall was born, BelTA learnt from U.S. businessman Jerry Ruchievsky. According to the businessman, a director of one of pension funds will visit Vitebsk in early July. He is interested in the project of Vitebsk Winemaking Factory. The project is to be implemented in Pokrovskaya Street in Vitebsk where Marc Chagall was born. Marc Chagall’s house still survives in the street and is now a museum. “Belarus is an attractive country for business. The reasons are geographical position, almost in the center of Europe, and ecological safety. Vitebsk’s investment and tourist appeal is connected with the name of Marc Chagall,” Jerry Ruchievsky said. He believes in the success of the project of the Vitebsk factory. Director of Vitebsk Winemaking Factory Vyacheslav Sapronov told BelTA that the project provides for the re-orientation of the enterprise towards fruit and berry premium wine production, improvement of tea production and creation of a tourist complex at the enterprise. The complex will include a little wine cellar with tasting rooms, a restaurant, a cafe, a tea shop, a picture gallery, an art show and a shop which will sell tea and other related accessories. The idea of the project is based on the fact that Vitebsk Winemaking Factory is located on the territory that is part of the so called Chagall’s quarter. The factory management sits in the building that is of historical and cultural value. The idea of reconstructing the enterprise and turning it into a tourist sight belongs to the team led by Distinguished Architect of Belarus Leonid Levin. The famous architect suggested giving Pokrovskaya Street the touch of the early 1900s. Taking into account the significance of Marc Chagall Museum as a tourist sight he suggests creating a tourist-friendly infrastructure here with lots of souvenir shops, cafes, a hotel, an exhibition room and even an art school.БЕЛТА
