MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – A sponsor to reconstruct Marc Chagall’s block in Vitebsk has been found, Head of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities, Distinguished Architect of Belarus Leonid Levin told reporters on 18 May. Leonid Levin noted that the project will memorialize other famous artists who lived and worked in Vitebsk: Malevich, Pen, Kandinsky. The block will be placed in the historical part of Vitebsk, Pokrovskaya street and neighbourhood areas. That is the birthplace of famous Marc Chagall. A museum of the outstanding artist locates there as well. In line with the architectural design, the 50-hectare part of the city should tell us about the life of the great artist, develop the ideas of the modern art and become the tourist center of Vitebsk. Hotels and restaurants will be built in this block. BelTA informed earlier, the project includes three phases. The first phase envisages the reconstruction of Pokrovskaya street. Souvenir shops and a small hotel will appear near Chagall’s house-museum. When the second and the third phases of the project are implemented, new shops, cafes, the center of modern arts with an exhibition hall and art school will open in the block. The cost of the project is estimated at around $200 million.БЕЛТА
