Slavonic Bazaar trademark available for purchase

VITEBSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The international art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk has started signing contracts for the right to use its trademark, BelTA learned from Olga Salnikova, First Deputy Director General of the entertainment center Vitebsk. The logo of the festival is well-recognized: a cornflower against the background of musical staff. The trademark has been registered in Belarus and grants the owner exclusive rights to manage it. Nobody can use it for commercial purposes without a permission of the owner. In 2011 the directorate of the festival signed about twenty contracts for the right to use the Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk trademark. The trademark was bought by state enterprises, private companies, and an artisan. Practice indicates the trademark is useful for promoting a product, particularly during a Slavonic Bazaar festival. Yet according to Olga Salnikova, it is premature to say that manufacturers have made the transition to civilized legal relationships as far as intellectual property is concerned. It has a lot to do with the complicated system used to evaluate a trademark, the lack of marketing research to assess benefits from using a trademark for owners and producers. The international art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk will be held on 12-18 July 2012.
