S Petersburg Akimov Comedy Theatre to stage its best productions in Vitebsk

Akimov State Academic Comedy Theatre has brought its best theatricals to Vitebsk, literary manager of the theatre Marina Bykova told a press conference on January 21. The performances will be held on January 21-30; all the tickets have been sold, BelTA has learnt. The programme will be opened by a popular comedy by English playwright William Wycherley The Country Wife directed by artistic director of the theatre Tatiana Kazakova. It is the first and only stage version of this play in Russia, Marina Bykova said. The play will be performed at the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre. The spectators will also be able to see The Makropulos Affair by Karel Capek, Bronislav Nusic’s The Doctor of Philosophy and a lyrical comedy by Ksenia Dragunskaya The Apple Thief. These are the best productions of the theatre, Marina Bykova underlined. The performances of the Saint Petersburg theatre in Vitebsk are always a success. “In Minsk and Grodno we were showered by love; when you hear loud applaud, Bravo exclamations, you realize that the spectators like your work,” she added. According to Director of the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre Grigory Shatko, the Vitebsk theatre is going to tour Saint Petersburg, too. The Vitebsk theatre is to bring national theatricals to the Russian city.
