Polotsk to host international history and archeology conference in November
VITEBSK, 14 March (BelTA) – An international research-to-practice conference “History and Archeology of Polotsk and Polotsk Land” will take place in Polotsk from 1-3 November and will mark the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk, BelTA learnt from acting director of the Polotsk National History and Culture Museum Tamara Dzumantayeva. The sixth conference (the first one was held in 1987, once in five years) will be supported by UNESCO for the first time. The international organization included Polotsk’s date into its 2012-2013 calendar and is expected to partake not only in the organization of the conference but also in holding an exhibition in the UN headquarters in Paris. Attending the forum will be scientists from Russia, Ukraine, and Sweden. The conference will include plenaries, break-out sessions, lectures of leading foreign and national museologists, presentations. Debates will cover historical, archeological, and museum issues. According to Tamara Dzumantayeva, numerous discoveries will be presented at the conference. All the reports will be published in the sixth collection “History and Archeology of Polotsk and Polotsk Land”. This edition enjoys popularity both among national and foreign historians. For example, the State Public Historical Library of Russia, apart from digital copies, has hard copies of all the collections.БЕЛТА
