Polotsk literary forum gathers participants from five countries
VITEBSK, 3 June (BelTA) - The final stage of the open international forum Slavonic Lyre 2014 has gathered around 100 participants from Belarus, Ukraine, Finland, the United Kingdom, and Russia. The forum is taking place in Polotsk on 3-4 June, BelTA learned from the Polotsk District Executive Committee.
The names of the winners in the nominations “Literary Translation”, “Playwriting”, “Flash Fiction”, “Poetry. Urban Lyric Poetry”, and “Poetry. Open Theme” will be announced during the official award ceremony on 4 June.
The program of the forum features many events. For example, on 3 June the Polotsk District Center for Crafts and Cultures will host a blitz-tournament with participation of modern poets from different countries and the evening of literature “Tuneful Lines of Dear Ukraine” dedicated to Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. The Museum of the Belarusian Book-Printing will host a roundtable “Literary process in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and other countries partaking in the forum: their connection and mutual enrichment”. The Francysk Skaryna Central City Library will organize an evening with Belarusian writer Natalia Batrakova as part of the Biblionight 2014 campaign. Besides, on 4 June the Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve will gather the participants of the forum for the conference “Literary Heritage of the Slavs and Contemporaries”.
The Slavonic Lyre forum has been established by the Polotskaya Vetv (Polotsk Branch) Belarusian Literary Union with the support of the Polotsk District Executive Committee. It is expected to promote the preservation and development of the Russian language and literature and to strengthen the literary and cultural ties between writers, translators, and literary experts from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and other countries.
