Over Br70bn to be channeled into new sports facilities in Vitebsk Oblast in 2010

VITEBSK, 18 October (BelTA) – The central sports stadium in Glubokoye, Vitebsk oblast, will reopen after renovations, BelTA learnt from the department for physical education, sport and tourism of the Glubokoye regional executive committee. The work on the facility started back in 1999 but was regularly put on hold due to different reasons. And now, finally, the construction of the modern city stadium has been complete. It includes a football pitch, athletics sector, race tracks with cutting-edge surface. The stadium is designed for 2,500 seats including the VIP-boxes. The stadium also houses a gym, locker rooms, medical offices and rooms for judges. Over Br7 billion was allocated for the reconstruction of the stadium. The new stadium will spur not only further development of elite sports in the region but will also encourage more people to do sports, the regional authorities believe. About 400 local teenagers attend children’s and youth sport schools, 10 of whom are members of the national teams. Especially popular among the young are Greco-Roman wrestling, athletics, boxing, equestrian sport. This year alone over Br70 billion will be allocated for the construction and upgrade of sports facilities in the region. The bulk of the funds have been earmarked for the sports infrastructure in towns and agro-towns. New sports and health complexes have already been built in Rossony, Miory, Postavy.
