Organizing committee to celebrate Marc Chagall’s birthday created in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 13 February (BelTA) – An organizing committee to mark the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s birth has been created in Vitebsk, BelTA learnt from Vladimir Terentiev, head of the culture department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. The birthday celebration of the famous countryman has become a good tradition in Vitebsk. Though the official birthday of the artist is on 6 July, Chagall always celebrated it on 7 July. That is why the home-museum of Marc Chagall will host events called “Visiting Marc and Bella” on 7 July. The anniversary of Marc Chagall’s birth will be also celebrated in Russia. The exhibitions of his works will be organized in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and in State Hermitage in St. Petersburg. The museum of Marc Chagall in Vitebsk is an art-center and a memorial home-museum of the artist. The art-center was opened in 1992. There are about 300 graphic works of Chagall in its stocks. The Marc Chagall home-museum was opened in 1997. He spent his youth in this house and wrote about it in his book “My Life”. More than 20,000 tourists from abroad visit the museum annually.
