Number of foreign students at Vitebsk State University up 50%

VITEBSK, 14 January (BelTA) – The number of overseas students of the Piotr Masherov Vitebsk State University nearly doubled in 2010, BelTA learned from the educational work department of the university. To date there are more than 270 intramural students from Turkmenistan, China, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Italy, Germany and Nigeria. In 2010-2011 academic year Vitebsk State University in cooperation with Huh Hoto Professional Institute (China) launched the joint training program using the 3+3 system. Chinese citizens will study music and art at Huh Hoto Insitute for three years, after that they will continue their studies at Vitebsk State University for another two years plus one year of the master’s program. The two educational establishments will develop a joint curriculum. Moreover, there are plans to create the Belarusian-Chinese university on the basis of the Chinese educational establishment. In 2010 Vitebsk State University proposed special courses for overseas students in the Russian language, jurisprudence, soil geography, topography and geodesy, meteorology and climatology. In 2010 more than 1,700 young specialists, including 1,000 intramural students, graduated from Vitebsk State University. The university stuff performed about 2,000 scientific studies, wrote more than 200 study guides and 740 scientific articles, won 10 tenders and filed 3 invention applications. Eleven employees of the university became professors or associate professors.
