Novopolotsk to host Starosvetsky Ball 2 March
VITEBSK, 25 February (BelTA) – Novopolotsk will give the Starosvetsky Ball on 2 March, BelTA learned from the Novopolotsk Town Hall. The first town ball organized in the best traditions of the 18-19th centuries will be held in the Novopolotsk Wedding Palace which is located in a picturesque place. Elegant girls will be accompanied by courteous men. An imposing doorkeeper will meet guests at the entrance; the event will be hosted by the master of ceremonies. As it was some centuries ago, the ball will become a great opportunity for its participants to showcase fair manners and communication skills, dance waltz, quadrille and polonaise. However, the jury will not allow young people forget about time and will estimate their performance in order to define the best couple. The event has been organized as part of the Year of Youth, which Novopolotsk declared in 2011. Public organizations, wedding salons provided assistance to Novopolotsk Town Hall in organizing the event. Young people themselves were actively preparing for the ball by taking dance classes. Out of more than 70 applicants, only 20 best pairs got the invitation to the ball. Judging by the interest that young people and public showed in the ball, it will mostly likely become an annual event, the city authorities said. The main goal of the Year of Youth in Novopolotsk is to nurture civic responsibility in young people, develop their creative, scientific and professional capabilities, and involve young people in social and economic reforms in the city. More than a hundred different activities, regional and national events will be carried out throughout the year. In addition, the city authorities are planning to open a center for youth employment, to assist secondary employment of school students and implement other projects to foster healthy lifestyle and respect for family values.БЕЛТА
