Musicians from Belarus, Russia, Lithuania to gather for Sollertinsky festival in Vitebsk

VITESBK, 28 November (BelTA) - Distinguished musicians from Belarus, Russia, and Lithuania will gather for the 24th International Sollertinsky Music Festival in Vitebsk on 3-22 December, BelTA learnt from Ms Nelly Matsaberidze, the artistic director of the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic. This year the classical music event will be dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Sollertinsky. The festival will open with a traditional concert of professors and best students of Vitebsk State College of Music. The key dates for fans of classical music will be 10 and 11 December. On these days the Vitebsk philharmonic will welcome the winner of international competitions, Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Knyazev. He will perform the program “Bach – A Musical Bible” consisting of the most significant works of this great composer. The cello the distinguished musician will play was made by Carlo Bergonzi, an apprentice of Stradivari. The festival program also includes performances of the Stravinsky string quartet from St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic Orchestra, Lundstrem trio (Russia), prizewinner of international contests Igor Uryash (piano, Russia), well-known soloist of Lithuanian National Philharmonic Ignas Misiura-Toumanov (bass-baritone, Lithuania) and concertmaster Daiva Petrucionyte (piano), group of soloists Klassic-Avangard (artistic director-Honored Artist of Belarus Vladimir Baidov, Belarus). The program also features the scientific readings that will bring together musicians and musicologists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Germany for the 14th time. During the two-day event reports will be made on the artistic biographies of Ivan Sollertinsky and Leonid Utesov, modern interpretative forms of music, etc. In addition, there will be a presentation of the book on Igor Sollertinsky and the festival. The book includes four sections (history of the festival, personality of Ivan Sollertinsky, events and people of Vitebsk, materials of 12th-13th scientific readings), and an annex with posters of past years, programs of all readings and a bibliographic list of publications about the festival).
