Museums of Vitebsk oblast to set up e-databases of local sights
VITEBSK, 2 September (BelTA) – The regional museums and libraries of the Vitebsk oblast have started creating electronic databases of local cultural and historical sights, BelTA learnt from Nikolai Pashinsky, head of the culture department of the Vitebsk oblast executive committee. Such databases will include the information on the architectural and historical places and events. They will be used in developing tourist routes and excursions, Nikolai Pashinsky said. For instance, the Glubokoye regional local lore museum has gathered a great amount of materials on the sights and well-known people connected with the Glubokoye region. There is a separate database on the history of the streets of the regional centre. According to Nikolai Pashinsky, the museum archives are largely used by the local travel agencies. In line with the oblast Year of the Native Land action plan, electronic local lore databases should be set up in every region by the end of 2009, Nikolai Pashinsky added. Some 885 oblast sites have been included into the state list of the historical and cultural heritage, including 279 architectural sites, 346 archeological monuments and 353 historical and cultural specimens. Materials on the architecture of Polotsk related to the name of Euphrosyne of Polotsk and a church-citadel in the village of Kamai, the Postavy region, have been submitted to the UNESCO for the inscription on the World Heritage List, Nikolai Pashinsky said. A new dairy for 600 heads is currently constructed in the Krasny Bor agricultural company in the Zhitkovichi region. It will be an up-to-date mini plant fitted with advanced milking equipment. The dairy will offer jobs to more than 50 residents of the village of Krasny Bor.БЕЛТА
