Museum dedicated to war of 1812 to be set up in Vitebsk Oblast
VITEBSK, 12 May (BelTA) – A museum complex dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812 will be established in Vitebsk Oblast; historic and tourists routes along the battlefields will be developed, Director of the Vitebsk branch of the International Institute of Trade and Social Relations Professor Veniamin Kosmash said at an international conference “Belarus in the Patriotic War of 1812” which opened in Vitebsk on 12 May, BelTA has learnt. The new museum might be located in the village of Ostrovno, Beshenkovichi District, which already has a monument dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812, or the village of Kukovyachino, Vitebsk District. The multifunctional museum complex will include a series of facilities, including a chapel, memorial plaques. Vitebsk specialists have amassed experience in creating expositions and the results of the research dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812. Experts from research and educational institutions, museums and travel agencies are considering a possibility to develop historic and tourist routes along the battlefields of 1812. One of the routes might go along Vitebsk, Beshenkovichi, Ostrovno, Kukovyachino and Polotsk. These places were the venue of tragic, but interesting events, therefore, they have considerable tourist potential, Veniamin Kosmach is convinced. The forum is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Russia’s victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. Taking part in the forum are scientists and members of research centers from Belarus, Russia, Czechia, Ukraine and the Baltic states. During the two days the participants of the conference will analyze the events of the Patriotic War of 1812, share their views across a wide range of topics related to geopolitical consequences of the military conflict of the 19th century. The conference is organized by the Vitebsk Eparchy of the Belarusian Exarchate, the Vitebsk branch of the International Institute of Trade and Social Relations under the auspices of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee.БЕЛТА
