More than 870 labor safety violations were identified in the Vitebsk region during the Safety Month
The results of the month of labor safety in the real sector of the economy in the Vitebsk region were reported by the chairman of the committee on labor, employment and social protection of the regional executive committee, Boris Efremov.
A set of events took place from September 27 to October 27 with an emphasis on industrial facilities in the region. During raids to comply with labor protection legislation, mobile teams identified more than 870 violations in 100 organizations.
“213 objects were examined, 33 pieces of equipment that did not meet safety requirements were ordered to be stopped,” said Boris Efremov. – Eight types of work are prohibited, and the activities of one facility are suspended. 53 people were suspended from work because they did not undergo training, instruction, knowledge testing and did not have personal protective equipment for various reasons.
As inspections have shown, workers are often allowed to work without protective equipment. Such violations are more common in small and medium-sized enterprises of non-state ownership.
A number of shortcomings are pointed out that can be quickly eliminated. These include pre-shift examinations, periodic medical examinations, revision and development of labor protection regulations for a number of work performed, and briefings.
For example, PlastikPak LLC (Vitebsk region) does not organize daily monitoring of compliance with labor protection requirements and recording its results in a special journal.
Facts of improper maintenance of the territory and operation of buildings and structures of the Shumilinsky district housing and communal services unit, the Vitstroytekhmash private unitary enterprise, and the repair zone of the Orshavodokanal branch of the Vitebskvodokanal unitary enterprise were revealed. Disorder was discovered in the transport section of the Orsha installation department of the branch of Trest Belsantekhmontazh No. 1.
It was revealed that general scheduled inspections of industrial buildings and structures are not carried out on schedule - twice a year - at Mir Dubrav LLC in the Postavy district and at theSharkovshchinskoe PMS state enterprise.
Frequent violations include the absence of devices for fixing the gates of industrial premises, barriers for drain openings in the floor, insufficient lighting of elevator shafts and untimely replacement of burnt-out lamps, failure to mark fire extinguishers and manual fire call points with special fire safety signs.
Some enterprises operated equipment that did not meet safety requirements; they used hand-held power tools that had not been verified and had faulty electrical wire insulation. Violation of the order of storage and operation of racks is also typical.
Based on the identified facts, 53 information letters were sent to the district and city executive committees according to the territorial affiliation of the enterprises, 17 letters were sent to the prosecutor’s office to take response measures.
“The practice of thematic safety months confirms their effectiveness in preventing violations of labor protection legislation and preventing accidents at work,” noted Boris Efremov. “That’s why it will continue.”
