Local runners gear up for charity mini-marathon in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 27 May (BelTA) - Local youth initiative “We are Together” will bring together about a hundred of volunteers and people in wheelchairs. The event will be held in Vitebsk on 27 May, the project manager, the chairman of the Vitebsk Oktyabrsky district Organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society Mikhail Gusachenko. The charity event "Mini-Marathon of People in Wheelchairs” will be held in Vitebsk for the fourth time. About 30 wheelchair users together with students- volunteers will move along the streets of Vitebsk, visit the Dormition Cathedral, the largest temple of the region, make a cruise along the Western Dvina, and lay flowers at the monument to the WW soldiers, partisans and underground at the Victory Square. According to Mikhail Gusachenko, on the one hand, such events help unite active young people with disabilities and encourage them to live an active life: take up creative activities, sports, on the other hand they increase awareness of the problems of wheelchair users, and promote the volunteer movement among young people. Assistance in holding the event has been provided by Vitebsk universities, local enterprises, other public organizations, the Orthodox Church, and the city authorities.
