Latvian fabric paintings showcased in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 4 April (BelTA) – The Textile of Latvia exhibition opened in Vitebsk on 3 April, BelTA learnt from the Vitebsk Art Museum. The expo features 44 works of Latvian painters many of whom are members of the Association of Latvian Textile Artists: Irena Andreyeva, Yekaterina Apale, Elina Veilande-Apine and many others. The displayed works are made of a wide range of materials, namely flax, wool, cotton, synthetics, and paper. The exhibition is organized as part of the international project Art Schools of Europe to popularize Latvian textile art under the auspices of the Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Vitebsk. The exhibition will stay open until 24 April. Latvian artist and pedagogue Alexandra Shlyakhova opened her solo exhibition ZOOM II in Vitebsk on 3 April as well. Alexandra Shlyakhova is a member of many international confederations and an author of over 90 scientific publications. Her works have been displayed in Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, and Italy. The Association of Latvian Textile Artists (ALTA) was founded in Riga in April 1994. ALTA’s main activities are to consolidate Latvian professional textile artists, promote their creative work, insure regular exhibition activities in Latvia and overseas. ALTA establishes and maintains relations with similar organizations all over the world and carries out exchange of exhibitions and informative materials on a regular basis.
