Kosinets: Gorodok should become satellite of Vitebsk
GORODOK, 2 September (BelTA) – Gorodok should become a satellite town of Vitebsk, Vitebsk Oblast Governor Alexander Kosinets said as he took part in a back-to-school ceremony at School No. 1 in Gorodok on 1 September, BelTA has learned.
When Alexander Kosinets was later asked by BelTA to comment on his statement, he noted that the towns located within 30-40 kilometers from the oblast capital offer great conditions for recreation, tourism and sport. These opportunities should be used efficiently; the necessary infrastructure should be built and the industrial capacities of these towns should be exploited better. “Vitebsk should supervise these towns,” the governor said.
Alexander Kosinets emphasized that branches of Vitebsk-based companies should be established in Gorodok, thus creating new jobs for local residents. “Here we should set up at least 10-15 manufacturing and processing enterprises. Companies and organizations from Vitebsk should take charge of organizations of Gorodok and think how to use local resources effectively,” the Vitebsk Oblast Governor said. “The authorities should create comfortable living and working conditions for people living in these towns,” Alexander Kosinets emphasized.
A satellite town is a town or a settlement located in the vicinity of a large city or a big company. A satellite town is included in the economic and demographic system of a metropolis. A set of satellite towns surrounding a big city make up an urban agglomeration.
