Italian medic points out Belarusian healthcare's focus on patients

The Belarusian healthcare system is directed towards patients, BelTA learned from Guido Giammarini, deputy chief physician at the Mazzoni Hospital in the Italian city of Ascoli Piceno.

An Italian delegation is in Minsk on a visit on 13-15 July. The visit has been made possible thanks to the “Friendship without borders: Belarus – Italy” project, which is being implemented by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. The visit's schedule is packed. Today Guido Giammarini is expected to get familiar with the practices in place at substation No.5 of the Minsk city emergency medical aid service. A roundtable session has also been organized to discuss topical aspects of medical aid.

Guido Giammarini said: “First of all, I'd like to thank you for the opportunity to see all of it. I am very impressed by the level of organization of emergency medical aid. Belarusian healthcare is very strongly directed towards the patient. I mean Belarusian medics see and hear patients. I am also impressed by the level of the equipment I've seen, the level of organization, automation, information sharing between ambulance crews and patients. All of it is organized at a very high professional level. I am convinced that this visit will help me and my colleagues a lot from the professional point of view. It demonstrates what differences exist and allows us to take note of some things. This visit will help establish new relations, new exchanges of information in healthcare, and will allow sharing professional experience. I'd be glad if this visit continued in new projects and new opportunities that have been opened.”

Guido Giammarini added that he was interested in seeing the level of medical aid organization in Belarus with his own eyes. “I put little trust in words and rumors. I prefer seeing everything with my own eyes. After this visit I will bring truthful information about what I've seen to my Italian colleagues and will tell them about the good level of organization and proper medical standards here. Once again I repeat: I've seen a high level of organization, highly qualified specialists, and remarkable equipment. You have to trust what you see, not what you hear,” he stressed.

Minsk residents and guests are expected to attend a themed friendly concert timed to the Year of Peace and Creation outside Minsk City Hall at 20:00 on 15 July. The popular Italian artist Riccardo Foresi will be the key performer. Belarusian and Italian pop singers are also expected to perform together.
