Heroes Park for Dubrovno to mark 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation
VITEBSK, 19 March (BelTA) – The Heroes Park will be laid in Dubrovno to mark the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazis, BelTA learnt from the Dubrovno District Executive Committee.
In 2014 the park will eternalize the memory of nine Heroes of the Soviet Union who took part in the liberation of the region from the Nazis. “The idea appeared two years ago. The park has already been beautified. This year there are plans to install steles and memorial stones in honor of the Soviet Union Heroes,” the executive committee said stressing that the park would be expanded in the future. There are plans to eternalize the memory of five Heroes of the Soviet Union, natives of Dubrovno District.
According to the committee, there are 29 military burials with the ashes of 40,000 soldiers in the region. The biggest number of Soviet soldiers is buried at the memorial complex Rylenki – over 10,000 soldiers, of them 3,100 unknown soldiers. “Over the last five years the region has been working hard to perpetuate the memory of the killed soldiers. Last year over 2,000 soldiers got their names back which were engraved on the memorial stones at the burial places. In 2013 over Br620 million were allocated to perpetuate the memory of the killed and beatify the military burials. Some Br200 million will be allocated from the budget for these purposes this year,” the executive committee said. Money will be also used to renew the obelisk at the tomb of Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Kondratyev in the village of Karumny.
