Glory Alley of Great Patriotic War military hardware to open in Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 4 May (BelTA) – A Glory Alley made of Great Patriotic War military hardware has been set up in Vitebsk, BelTA learned from Alexander Sidorenko, Head of the Youth Affairs and Defensive Mobilization of Vitebsk City Hall. The Glory Alley is located to the right of the monument erected in honor of the Soviet Army, partisans and underground resistance fighters and is part of the Pobeditelei Park. Instead of trees the Glory Alley is embellished by vehicles and military hardware of the Great Patriotic War time: a howitzer, mortars and AA guns, a tank T-34, a self-propelled mount SU-100. A total of 13 exhibits have been gathered in the open air from across the country since 2009. Speaking about the value of the weaponry, Alexander Sidorenko stressed that each of them fought through the war and has a history of its own to tell. For instance, the T-34 tank arrived in Vitebsk from the Lepel Region where it was put on a pedestal in the town of Zaslonovo in memory of the armor crewmen that fell during the war. Information about the most vivid parts of the biographies and technical parameters of all the iron veterans will be available on plaques near every exhibit. The exhibition will be permanently open. Its unveiling is timed to the opening of the renewed Victory Square that will take place on the eve of 9 May.
