Freestyle wrestling tournament in Vitebsk to bring together 200 athletes from four countries

VITEBSK, 21 January (BelTA) – About 200 athletes from four countries will take part in the 19th International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament in memory of captain 3rd rank Anatoly Ispenkov and the crew members of the Komsomolets nuclear submarine in Vitebsk, BelTA learnt from the physical training, sport and tourism department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. The tournament will start on 22 January. The finals are scheduled for 24 January. Wrestlers under 20 from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and all Belarusian oblasts will compete for 23 sets of medals in 13 weight categories (the lightest is 32kg; the heaviest is 100+kg). Girls will compete in 10 weight categories (from 38kg to 70kg). The competitions will take place in the Sports Palace of Vitebsk Academy of Veterinary Medicine. During the Memorial Wrestling Tournament a lot of cultural events are planned for the teams. Traditionally athletes will pay tribute to the memory of the dead submariners, lay a wreath to Anatoly Ispenkov’s grave in Shymilino District, and flowers to the monument to the soldiers-internationalists in Vitebsk. Besides, young athletes will visit the military museum and go sightseeing around Vitebsk.
