Early spring crops planted on nearly 20% of designated area


Early spring crops have been sown on 19.3% of the target area in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 9 April, early spring cereals and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat and millet) were planted on the area of 125,300ha, or 19.3% of the plan. Progress in sowing these crops reached 61.4% in Brest Oblast, 14.8% in Gomel Oblast, 50.4% in Grodno Oblast, 2.31% in Minsk Oblast, and 0.34% in Mogilev Oblast. Land for sowing early spring cereals and leguminous crops was tilled on the area of 209,300ha (32.2% of the target).

Early spring cereals and leguminous crops will occupy a total of 650,400 hectares this year. Grain maize will be planted on 265,300 hectares, potatoes on 26,100 hectares, sugar beets on 101,700 hectares. This year, state-run agricultural organizations and private farms are expected to produce 8,877,000 tonnes of grain.
