Customs of Belarus, Russia to develop border trade

ORSHA, 24 September (BelTA) – The heads of the regional customs services of Belarus and Russia are set to meet in Orsha on 24 September to discuss the issues of current cooperation between the customs agencies on developing mutual trade, said Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Belarus Leonid Dosov. “The customs agencies of the two countries have established close mutual relations, are able to settle various moot points including by means of such meetings between the heads of the regional customs,” Leonid Dosov said. The meeting highlights a wide range of issues related to the current cooperation between the customs bodies of the boundary regions of Russia and Belarus and aims to contribute to the development of the border trade and exchange of the information. The two sides are interested in developing the border infrastructure and setting up transport and logistics centers. According to Leonid Dosov, such a center has been set up in Brest. The first stage of the transport and logistics center near Minsk will be opened in a month. There is a necessity to build similar facilities in Orsha. The participants of the event will also discuss the issues of cooperation in culture and sports. Attending the meeting organized by the State Customs Committee of Belarus, are SCC members, heads of the Vitebsk, Polotsk, Mogilev, Gomel, Sebezh, Bryansk and Smolensk customs services.
