Children's rehabilitation health center "Vetraz" of Postavy district celebrated its twentieth anniversary

“The buildings of the missile regiment were given over to the children’s health center after its withdrawal from Postavy region, which had to be re-equipped to receive children and improve their health,” noted Sergei Chepik, chairman of the Postavy district executive committee. – The team coped with the task. Today it is a modern institution that successfully performs the functions of rehabilitation and recovery of not only seriously ill children, but also adults.

Among the guests of honor, in addition to the head of the district, the solemn event was attended by the chairman of the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Health Workers Vladimir Plytkevich, representatives of the main health department of the regional executive committee and the regional department of the Republican Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium Treatment of the Population.

Those who stood at the origins of the creation of “Vetraz” recalled how, thanks to the presidential program “Children of Belarus” and its subprogram “Children of Chernobyl,” reconstruction of buildings inherited from military units was carried out, new buildings were built, and a medical base was developed.

But a qualitative breakthrough in the development of the center is associated with the activities of the current chief physician of the center, Sergei Petukhov. Over the seven years that he has been leading the team, Vetraz, strengthening its material, technical and medical base, has been developing a range of medical services and was able to obtain the status of a sanatorium and resort organization of category I.

In recent years, modern equipment has been purchased here and effective methods of kinesitherapy and massage have been mastered; physiotherapy rooms and balneotherapy departments are functioning for the improvement and rehabilitation of children with diseases of the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, respiratory organs, and cardiovascular system. Last year, the center became the first institution in the republic to use the Corvit device, previously used in astronautics, to treat children with cerebral palsy. In June of this year, a neurorehabilitation room for legs was opened at the medical institution. The center’s specialists actively use interactive technologies when children’s health is restored through play activities. It is for this purpose that the multisensory development room is equipped, the program of which includes methods for the development of motor and intellectual skills. Vetraz effectively prevents the pathology from becoming chronic and restores the active functioning of children.

In a word, according to regional and republican departments, the level of work, quality of health improvement and medical rehabilitation in the center is not inferior to well-known European institutions. And it is provided by 170 employees, professionals in their field, people with big hearts, capable of daily helping those who find it difficult to take steps and talk.

Over the course of a year, up to 3,500 people undergo rehabilitation at Vetraz. Approximately 350 are from outside Belarus, mainly from Russia. Children who improve their health here successfully complete the curriculum, participate in hobby groups, and have fun in their free time. It is not surprising that the regional children's rehabilitation health center "Vetraz" is today one of the most popular medical institutions in the country.
