Belarusian Railways, Latvian Railways to team up for Polotsk-Daugavpils line electrification
MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Railways and Latvian Railways have signed an agreement on cooperation for electrifying the Polotsk-Daugavpils line, the press service of the Belarusian railroad operator told BelTA.
The agreement provides for setting up a joint taskforce that will coordinate plans and schedules of the joint electrification of the railroad line, coordination of freight traffic and hauling options. In the future the taskforce will have to prepare action plans for each side to implement in Belarus and Latvia.
The document is aimed at improving the ecological safety and the competitive ability of railroad transportation, at developing the infrastructure of the bordering sections along the Polotsk-Daugavpils line, explained the source. The implementation of the agreement has good prospects and will contribute to the development of transport potential and foreign trade of Belarus and Latvia, representatives of Belarusian Railways were convinced.
