Belarusian flax now sold to South Korea
The Belarusian company Orsha Linen Mill has started selling fabrics to South Korea, the company's representatives told BelTA.
The company has penetrated the Korean market thanks to persistent efforts. So far two major batches and one small batch of fabrics have been shipped. Negotiations on consequent shipments are underway.
Orsha Linen Mill's products are sold to over 30 countries. In 2017 the company added Chile and India to the list. Chile bought a small batch of merchandise while the work to ship containers full of Belarusian linen to India is nearly finished. There are plans to conclude the contract in September-October.
The company exports 70% of the fabrics and sewn products it makes. The rest is sold domestically. Wholesale trade accounts for over 68% of the output, with the retail share close to 32%. The share of Russia and other CIS states in the total export exceeds 18%. The European Union accounts for about 47%. Partners from European countries highly appreciate the quality of Orsha-made products. "We have established stable contacts with business partners. The contacts are constantly developed, this is why this direction accounts for the largest share of export shipments," noted the specialists.
Orsha Linen Mill considers Latin America, the USA, and Canada to be promising markets. For now their share is close to 8%. There are plans to raise the figure to 10% in the next few years. With this in mind representatives of the Belarusian company visited Canada's premier apparel expo Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada, which took place in Toronto on 21-23 August. The expo gathered about 250 exhibitors from China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, the UK, Turkey, Colombia, the USA, and Canada. During the visit representatives of Orsha Linen Mill examined products of their competitors, held negotiations and business meetings with assistance of the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (CERBA). Participation in such events will help the Belarusian company to determine further operations on this market and get familiar with the certification procedures these countries require.
