Belarus to keep increasing food supplies to Russia

In 2023 Belarus will continue increasing food supplies to Russia, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats told reporters on the sidelines of the second Belarusian Food Forum in St. Petersburg, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

In 2022, Belarus' trade with Russia grew by a third, and the number of deliveries also increased. “Last year, food products worth $667 million were shipped to St. Petersburg. Those were cheeses, milk, bakery and confectionery products, etc. All in all, foodstuffs worth almost $6 billion were delivered to Russia in 2022. We are building up our presence in the Russian market. This year is going to be not worse than the previous one in this regard,” the deputy prime minister said.

The second Belarusian Food Forum is running in St. Petersburg on 14- 15 March. Its goal is to increase food supplies from the Republic of Belarus to retail chains in Russian regions. The forum brought together a great number of participants. More than 20 enterprises of the processing industry of Belarus showcase their products. “We have a decent representation at the forum. Local residents show a great interest in Belarusian products that are really popular due to their high quality,” the deputy prime minister said.

According to him, product quality improvement and assortment diversification are discussed on the sidelines of the forum. “We are interested in certain products made by the Russian Federation and want to reconcile our interests when it comes to production and processing technologies. In particular, Leningrad Oblast has made great progress in animal husbandry and milk production due to advanced technology and great managerial solutions. Most importantly, it boasts dedicated professionals who give their all to their work,” Leonid Zayats emphasized.
